Construction of a roof over the yard by the Kościuszko Mound
The new Kościuszko Museum with a state-of-the-art educational route adjusted to the needs of persons with disabilities shall be ready for its grand opening in September 2019. Tourists will be able to become familiar with the story of Tadeusz Kościuszko through a narrative exhibition featuring multimedia components.
At this time, roofing over the yard by the Kościuszko Mound in Krakow is being constructed. A steel frame for glazing has been installed with cranes in the inner yard of the Kościuszko Fort. Thanks to it, the yard will be used as exhibition space for the newly formed Kosciuszko Museum.

Construction works inside Bastion V are being carried out simultaneously – plaster has been removed in the rooms on the ground floor and the original red brick uncovered. The Kosciuszko Mound Committee is waiting for the green light from the city conservation office to restore the original red brick unplastered walls. Such an undertaking will require specialised renovation works. During the removal of the plaster, metal mounting components for machine guns were revealed in the western part of the building and a special hatch in the centre of the Bastion’s ceiling was discovered.

Works on the new Kościuszko Museum are scheduled to end in September of 2019, but it is possible that tourists will be able to visit the museum as soon as in the summer of next year. The exhibition will reveal facts of Tadeusz Kościuszko’s life and achievements. The Kościuszko Mound Committee has designed a detailed script for the exhibition. The next step is to announce a contest for the execution of the Kościuszko Museum. According to Leszek Cierpiałowski, head of the Kosciuszko Mound Committee’s office, the contractor will shortly be selected so that the exhibition can be partially completed by the end of the year.
The investment will bring changes to the surroundings of the Kosciuszko Mound as well – the Kosciuszko Gardens with pathways and benches will be added at the feet of the Mound. All new exhibitions will be installed in such a way as to ensure their availability to persons with disabilities. A lift will be installed inside Bastion V, while vision-impaired visitors will be able to explore the Kosciuszko Mound and the entire fort through a tactile model.
The cost of establishing the new museum will total ca. PLN 11 million, including over PLN 6.2 million of EU subsidies from the Operational Programme 2014 – 2020 for the Małopolska region.
